Bulk Tank Monitoring System

Approached by platform operators KCA Deutag, Monitor Systems designed, installed and commissioned a Bulk Tank Monitoring System on the Thistle Drilling Platform.

The system, utilising guided wave radar sensors (GWR) to monitor seven bulk storage tanks and display tank content level (or in tonnes) on a remote, intrinsically safe main control panel, provided the client with a reliable performance, low maintenance solution to bulk tank management.

Measurement data is communicated from a low maintenance, easy-fit GWR sensor on each tank via a standard 4-20mA signal and shown on low cost LCD displays on a main control industrial panel PC.

The system was also provided with an option to integrate with a PLC with HMI displays or with the rig’s data management system.
